Got the heads up from readers Brando and Maria on this, and saw its been mentioned in C-blog as well.
The Pens Wives/Girlfriends made Christmas baskets for a Charity Auction for the Children's Institute.
[PENS]
Brando broke some baskets down for us:
Brooks Orpik’s basket has the highest number of bids so far. I’m not sure if that stuffed Penguin has a blue beak, or a Hannibal Lecter mask:
The next highest in terms of bid numbers is....Boucher. Boucher??? Has he even unpacked yet???
MAF loves Rocky.
Talbot’s includes a Superbad DVD. Starring soon in an A&L Motors Commercial...McLovin.
Apparently Danny Sabourin needs to attend some AA meetings.
Kris Letang’s includes the board game “Cranium”. (Shocker...he’s the guy on the bus who wants to play board games)....and what appears to be a Matellica CD??? Can’t tell for sure.
You can bid here
[AUCTION]
Here are some others:
Matt Cooke's is all business:
Bing's includes "Criminal minds?" Some Ranger fan is thinking " Guess thats where he gets the bad acting. " -Ruff ruff ruff- New York sucks.
What is the Dave King thing in Malkin's?
::::::::::::::::::::::::::
If you follow that link you'll see that there are some other items up for auction from other teams.
The ones that are really funny are the Islanders.
Thats right you can win that dinner with Mike Comrie you always wanted.
[Islanders]
In fact, you can bid on dinners with any of the Islanders.
Who the hell would want to have dinner with Brendan Witt?
Shockingly, there has been no bids for these.
If you go to dinner with Garth Snow, he'll probably make you pay, and or sign you to a 15 year contract.
Joke.

I lied...
posted that like 2 weeks ago Kev..hahha
Hows the team doing? I haven't played in weeks.
So I love that me and Brando are on the same page about a lot of the gift baskets including Letang's and Sabou's.
But, staff, how can you not picture Cooke's? I though for sure Charlie would get his eyes on that and have a new favorite player.
hahaaha
Maybe we'll post some more because we're bored.
Boucher's has a ton of stuff in there, so I'm not surprised it has a lot of bids. And I can't even imagine Letang listening to Metallica.
@staff- very nice edit.
@eileenover- Picturing Letang listening to Metallica is just too funny. Almost as funny as picturing Matt Cooke relaxing in a bath surrounded by scented candles.
And has anyone cared about Hal Gill enough yet to make him one? Last I checked, he was the only player without one, and yet strangely it had bids. hmmm...
Back off the Scuds basket.
For real.
The Dave King thing in Malkin's is a book about the first Canadian coach in the Russian Super League. He coached the Metallurg Magnitogorsk. Plug that shit into Amazon, Staff.
I'd be game for the Mike Comrie dinner, as long as Hil-dawg tagged along. So I could make fun of her while enjoying a delicious steak. mmmmm.
thank you meecrofilm, i had been waiting for the first male cblogger to come along and say they'd be game for the Comrie dinner, as long as Hil came too.
even if it was for slightly different reasons
Any auctions for a dinner with Dion Phaneuf and "Sloppy Seconds"?
No idea who made that Cooke's basket, but I love him/her/it. Same goes with Satan's
Ed Harris. What an actor.
You guys should get a screenshot from this scene when he goes apeshit on Sean Connery. It would make a good gameday photo.

Satan's basket is just ... wow.
Is that a Sykora jersey/shirt in Malkin's basket? The number sure looks like 17 to me. Malkin's basket should also have black stick tape in it. He could make me into a 20 goal scorer with some of that shit.
I was away for a few weeks... my bad.
I suck I know... But I think I'll get over it. It'll be a hard road to travel but I'll get there. Just wish me good luck, I guess.
I've played two games in the past 3 days. Before that it was a couple of weeks. We're doing ok but we need out big guns to get back into it.
I'd pay to have dinner with David Volek so I could poison his drink.
I would go to dinner with Witt and when he went to the bathroom I would drop my nut sack in his drink
That might be worth $550
Yeah, the book in Malkin's basket is from when Dave King coached over in Russia. He had Malkin as a player that year, talks about him quite a bit in the book.
That Dave King book is a really good read. I got it for xmas last year and would definitely recommend it to any Malkin fan.
I knew Letang loved metallica but I would have thought he would give away a better CD than And Justice For All. Sometimes when we are on a power play, i turn all the lights off, and make my little brother flip the switch in the living room on and off real fast, like a strobe light, and I headbang for the whole 2 minutes or until we score. I call it Riding the Lightning. I don't think it's helping.
its always the quite ones u have to be carful with, so leave kris alone.
side note - everytime i hear him speak, it reminds me of that SNL skit where they made fun of Celine Dion.
am i the only one?
pittsburghsteelrocks, on the contrary, I think you may be the best effort for the Pens top power play unit some nights.
@pittsburghsteel... maybe they should try your riding the lightning thing at the Igloo when the Pens are on the PP?
BNG, any chance you'll be diverting any of the MILF $ to the Scuds basket?
Thanks for the heads up on the Dave King book...I though that was a King of the Hill DVD.
@staff, you should make a holiday basket that we can bid on for BNG's MILF fund...put me down for $10 to get the bidding started, sight unseen.
BNG's MLF fund is doing crazy well, if you look at that facebook page. You're making us proud BNG!
kstewy
I'm pretty sure the shirt is upside down. The 7 is on the right and is angled toward the right, which would be left if turned the right way and therefore making it 71. (Wow, that is a really bad explanation.)
I third (or fourth) that the Dave King book is really good and worth the read. Not only do you get a peek at Geno and how he is in Russia, you get to see how it is in Russia (40 below, streets falling apart, pollution, etc). Geno's basket could have more stuff in it, like a Transformers dvd...
Satan's basket...simply the presentation...makes me laugh. The fact that you see such a girly basket with "Satan" underneath...classic.
Satan loves frilly bows.
Oh, Miro.
This book that's in Malkin's basket sounds very interesting. As I collect hockey books, I think I have something new to add to my christmas list.
You will love it. I think b/c I know very little of Russia, let alone Magnitogorsk, it was fascinating. But you also get a peek at Geno at home, and Dave King loves him, and raves about him throughout the book. At the end is when Geno came over here, Dave was as surprised as anyone.
Kris Letang likes Entourage?!
I think I may have fell in love with him.
Wade Phillips is a penis.
Satan's looks like it's for a wedding shower. I would definitely go to dinner with Comrie if Hilary came. Then I can make fun of her horrible acting skills and her buck teeth veneers.
Not to mention that god awful crapfest she calls her musical career.
Then she would flash millions of dollars at you and say, "whatevs."
kimberly, i think im starting to feel the same way.
Too many men penalty on the cowboys...
too bad.
If there was ever a time to "ice" the kicker, that would've been it. Let him sit out there in the cold for a little longer.
Geez, I didn't realize how bad the injury situation in Washington was. They might as well be the Hersey Capitals at this point. Makes us look pretty lucky.
Dear Lord, that Holmes reception was beautiful.
Well another D-man must be injured, cause Lovejoy got the call.
Gill? I know he was hurting towards the end of the SENS game.
is it possible that it's a 17 shirt from magnitogorsk? Pics aren't loading so I'm throwing a guess out there.
The Steelers re-signed ben for how much? Somebody might want to tell him its time to earn that money. Looks like he's been running scared all evening.
I wonder if it is Gill...he did look like he was hurting on Saturday.
Hope it's nothing too serious.
I read on the Pens website he was icing his shoulder after the game cause of a hit he took in the third
We just finished decorating our tree, and in the box of ornaments I found this one my brother made when he was little.
I rather like the fangs...
Jesus Christ. Can we get ONE TD?
HAH, just kidding...we got two.
WOO.
Bring on Buffalo...
The shirt is just upside down, guys.
Lovejoy got the call? Fuckin' love Ben Lovejoy. If USS Gill is out, though, that's bad news for our PK. Ergh.
Dyamn. Lovejoy has been solid though in WBS, and he had a pretty decent camp too. Let's hope he can put it together.
Go Pens.
And suck it Dall-ass.
I love how Steelers fans love hating their own players so much. Get the fuck over it.
It really pisses me off when they boo them. They booed Berger because of his not-so-great punts...ummmmm, the wind was hella shitty today, get over it.
I will never boo my own team.
Classless.
Regardless, we're 10-3--I'm more than satisfied with that. Ballaaa.
I will never boo my own team.
Classless.
I agree. All of this hate reminds me of the idiots who said we should trade Staal. People insist on focusing only the negatives. Just be happy we won the damn game!
Good to know that there is at least one other person under the age of 65 who watches Criminal Minds.
Fleuryous:
"ballaaa" probably has to be one of the most underrated and under-utilized phrases of all time.
Except when it's used to specifically describe activities involving dudes. Then it, uh, can take on a different meaning. Like when my brother once said "ballin' Crosby." Yeah... haha.
And don't ever spend more than 5 minutes at LGP because you'd probably burst into tears.

I always thought I would never boo my own team, but then Paul Ernster had some AMAZING punts before he was cut. I mean, when a lineman can throw you as far as you can punt, you suck.
And I've never had a problem with other people booing the Pirates. I wouldn't do it, but its OK if they do.
But boo my Penguins, and you'll die. I even get pissed when people boo Jagr. I sit there yelling "You know he helped us win 2 cups you jackass!!" "Yeah thats right, boo one of the best players to ever wear the penguins jersey you fucker" "Whats next, boo Lemieux cus he's retired?"

Something tells me Susan isn't legit. C-blog spam. Awesome.
spam?
Also, Boucher was put on IR, so that leaves 6 active defensemen. Pretty sure that's why Lovejoy was called up.
I hope any time that I advocated trading Staal didn't come off as hate for Staalsy. I think Staal is great...he reminds me so much of Trevor Linden, and Linden is one of my top ten favorite players ever. I've said before that if that's what Jordan Staal ultimately becomes for this organIzation - a player who does manages to be solid but never elite in so many phases of the game - then I'd be thrilled with that.
I advocated trading Staal because because he could possibly bring us a different piece of the puzzle - namely, that younger talented winger (someone in their early 20s) who could be put on the top two lines and assimilated into the core in Staal's place. That's the only real way I'd deal him - to acquire a winger that can become part of the long-term core.
According to Tony at The Confluence, Gill hurt his shoulder, and he isn't sure whether or not he could play. So bringing up Lovejoy is just to be safe incase they decide last minute Gill can't go.
We really need to get Whits back.
Orpik-Letang
Scuderi-Whitney
Goligoski-Eaton
bayonetwork::
I just don't see Kris as being a fan of Entourage. It shocked me! haha
i don't know why, but i always like the christmas stockings/baskets. i think it has to do more so with my stalkerism, but whatev.
Lets start up a nice lil rally to get free candy into the all-star race
I can't wait for...
Orpik-Gonchar
Scuds-Whitney
Gill-Letang
Eaton-Gogo
Boucher
I get hard thinking of all the possibilities of a full defensive roster.
"Orpik-Gonchar
Scuds-Whitney
Gill-Letang" =best d in hockey
"Eaton-Gogo
Boucher" = best "backups" in hockey.
just a few thoughts:
eaton's kenny chesney cd looks a bit creepy looking out from behind the jersey
dupois' looks like an easter basket. wonder what the baseball thing is
TK's has a christmas story-awesome!
as for malkin's jersey, i think its upside down giving it the 17 look
and how cool is that, hand of god's comes with some chucks!
In other news, Ben Eager (for balls) currently has more goals than Talbot does... Let that one sink in...
Eager for balls...classic.
Rangers lost in regulation tonight to the Flames, so we're still only 4 points back with 4 games in hand.
Calgary beating up on the Rangers = the best news I've heard all night.
Orpik-Gonchar
Scuds-Whitney
Gill-Letang
It's criminal how gorgeous those d-pairs sound. ERGFHGHGHDKSSLDJSKLDJLS.
Touche, Zoe...erections will ensue.
If Eaton continues improving at this pace (and continues to stay healthy) then he may play Gill out of a spot come playoff time. He's the one signed through next season. Who knows though. When everyone comes back and Gill is able to play a lot less even strength minutes he'll be a lot more valuable to the team and the PK.
Gill blows, Eaton's the better option at this point. Unless the refs decide to put away the whistles when playoff time rolls around.
Eaton takes pathetic, obvious penalties and can morph into a total pussy on the PK at a moment's notice. I still feel like he's the odd man out.
Gill, Eaton, Gogo, Boucher, can we really go wrong here? I still haven't seen enough of Boucher to know, but I would feel fine with any of the other 3 being in our starting 6 come playoff time. They each have their strengths and weaknesses.
But this is all pretty far away, a few months from now this picture might look entirely different.
By the by...
why is Sid an Urban Cowboy?
M.Vander... If I could have a "Buy BNG a Scuds Auction Basket" fundraiser go as well as the Buries It fundraiser pledge is going I'd practically have a date with ol' #4!
In all seriousness, we're going strong at the BNG's Pledge for the Buries It Foundation.
I can't express how proud I am of the family/community that is tPB/C-Blog. Staff, Seth at EN, Dave Schmidt (who started the whole Facebook group in the first place), etc.... yinz are HUGE!
Go Pens and let's keep this going!!!
(I can't believe I've raised the pledge quota to $660 when just two days ago it was $100!!!)
Stoosh I never thought you hated Staal! I wasn't referring to you at all. That rhymed. I was referring to the people who just bashed him at the start of the season.

She likes doing her work all automated 'n such.
BnG FTW.
*This post is just siiiiix letters long*
kstewy 16 and JS - in case no one else said it and you actually care, Malkin's shirt is just upside-down.
Loves is from Dartmouth. Woo WOOT! Granted, he played after I graduated, but obviously he is phenomenal. Go Big Green!
Susan definitely needs to come to wingblog 5.0!
Still thawing out from the Steeler's game. I had killer seats from one of the ortho surgeons, and admittedly, it was a fricking awesome ending. But so many times I found myself thinking how as much as I love football, man I love hockey so much more.
Go Pens.

Tooooooooo funny!!
At least Letang didn't have the Black Album. Which you would expect, since he spells his name with a K.
@ Eileen -
I didn't think you were, and I should've mentioned that in my post. Your post was directed at those shortsighted few who were spewing the Staal hatred after he struggled early on in the season and were arguing for trading him because he was struggling.
I just know that I've advocated the possibility of dealing him at some point - more from a business/cap reality than anything else. Shero may someday have to choose between keeping Staal or getting a winger that fits into the core, or he can get creative and find other ways around it (like waiting to address the issue until this summer, when he could deal a healthy Gonchar - freeing up $5M in cap money for next year - and declining to extend contracts of guys like Fedotenko and Gill, for instance. That's almost $9.5-10M right there.)
Eaton = Pylon City.
If the Pens have to resort to using him regularly in the playoffs...they're in trouble.
His retreating 'tripod' defensive style may be sufficient [on a good day] during the regular season...but, he would be highly exposed for his ineptness during games in mid-April and beyond...
I sure hope Lovejoy gets a shot in the lineup tomorrow...not saying that he's the 'Next One'...but, to just see what he can do & see if he has the goods to be a possible 6th or 7th d-man with the big squad.
•Commit to BNG. What a human.
•Hip...
I hope you wore Pens garb to the game.
[GoGo 4 Higgins]

Completely agree. As much as I've gotten back into the Steelers and the NFL this year, seeing a game live is an exercise in patience at times because there are just too many friggin' commercial breaks during NFL games. At least when you're home, you can change the channel or something. But when you're at the game, the constant television timeouts break up the flow of the game so much, it's ridiculous.
It was good to see the Steelers win, especially against the Cowboys. You think the Steelers get too much press in Pittsburgh, the Cowboys get too much press period.
One reason that an NFL game has so many breaks is the enormous amount of money the networks are paying to televise the games. Every team gets a crapload of TV money. Conversely, the NHL gets very little.
Football is the best TV sport, baseball is the best radio sport, but hockey is the best spectator sport. Basketball is unwatchable due to the numerous timeouts and blaring music DURING play.
Godard's basket is more intimidating that Laraque was as a player last season.
Susan, are you single? You seem like my woman i'd wanna get wit. I wanna say something. I'm gonna put it out there; if you like it, you can take it, if you don't, send it right back. I want to be on you.
Another article referencing Mega Powers.
pittsburghsteel...solid Ron Burgundy reference right thurr.
Ad I resent the basketball remark. I love watching basketball! Especially Pitt basketball. Grizzy Blair is tooooo entertaining.
Football and hockey are the most entertaining spectator sports, I think. I also think the company you keep makes it more worthwhile as well. My sister and I are the most ridiculous fans ever (especially Pitt football). At the Backyard Brawl, WVU fans pretty much hated us...but it made the win that much sweeter.
I'm just putting it out there that I have been/was gay for Turk WAAAAAAAAAAY prior to being Gay for Scuds.
...Just sayin'.
(No offense Eileen. Still totally gay for you.)
@stoosh-
While I haven't made it to a Pens game yet, I went to a Bills game in early Nov, and was amazed at how slow the game moves. I didn't think they could fit more commercial breaks than college, and I thought wrong. The No Fun League is just too commercial.
@fleuryous-
I think you're right with hockey and *college* football. The NFL is better watched on TV anymore.
